ARTHUR
Uncle Arthur lived in Barking and for many years had lived in a run down lodging house. He had stayed their as he believed his money helped the family.
He used to visit us (the family of his brother William) in Dagenham and always walked as he would never get on a bus or tram. If the weather started to rain, he would turn around and go back home.
He always gave the children some pocket money. He was a very kind decent man and was liked by everyone. He enjoyed a drink but never got drunk.
He eventually moved to more decent lodgings where he died of a heart condition sometime before the death of his brother William. He must have also been in his fifties. He died whilst in his lodgings. (Violet via Joyce)
